Today wasn't so great. The mail has been crap this week! No junk! Hee hee. How many of you say that?

Not to worry though. Plenty of paper crosses our paths in a day. I'm trying to be a little strict and stick to the bare minimum of what I come across but there's really so much more–from magazines to catalogues, flyers, newspapers, food packaging and so much more.

Try it for a day. Watch the paper that's passing by you. Take notice of the colours, the patterns, the words. And let me know if you find something amazing.

1 the scraps

I didn't find anything really amazing today and by tonight when I decided what I was working with, I wasn't thrilled! But I did manage to get three more pages done. I had a Home Hardware flyer and a Folger's Coffee advertisement in the mail. I grabbed two tags off my jeans I bought at Reitman's. There was also an elastic-y string on one of the tags. I knew I didn't have much so when I was throwing stuff into the recycling bins today and some pieces of corrugated cardboard fell to the ground, I picked them up and saved them. I figured they must be meant to be used since I used corrugated yesterday. I still have a couple of pieces left from the other day too.

So here's what I did…

2 folgers

This is a strange little page. The center is cut out from the Folger's ad. It was very hard to find anything workable in there. I cut a circle out where a coffee cup was, then covered it with that bit of vellum to tone it down. I trimmed edges with the burgundy corrugated cardboard to make it look a little better. Then for some strange reason I added the UPC code. Notice the chocolate curl images. I made part of them into a little ribbon-like tie.I also threw in an orange gem to tie it into the earlier pages.

4 pocket w tag

This page wasn't too bad. The cardboard here looks blue but it's really more purple. This piece had nice little folds which worked perfectly for a pocket.  When I use corrugated cardboard, I like to try peel a layer off the back so that the cardboard isn't so stiff. It's actually quite a nice texture and weight once you do that. Be careful of tearing it though. As you can see, I've added gemstones, stuck a piece of the elastic onto the front of the pocket and fixed up the tags a bit. The journal lines on the small tag are cut from a furnace filter in the Home Hardware flyer. I smeared quite a bit of black distress ink on this page too–because it needed something!

5 tag out of pocket

Here's a look at that tag out of the pocket. The words are kind of strange but they can be covered with a  photo later anyway.

6 flyer page
I felt like I really needed to use at least some of the Home Hardware flyer (besides that tiny journal spot) so I cut out a house exterior photo and tried to use mostly just the gardens. I stuck the photo of the woman on top. She's holding something. Don't you think it almost looks like me from a distance. I added cardboard, the words "NO" and "Zone" though they don't make much sense. Not yet anyway but maybe they will at some point.

7 overview of these pages inside

So here's an overview of those inside pages. Strange little album for sure. It just goes to show we CAN  scrapbook with anything even if we didn't HAVE a local scrapbook store. Luckily you do and so you can always get the latest papers but seriously, I won't be offended if just once in a while you add in some scraps that might have otherwise disappeared forever. Not a thing at all wrong with that!

I can see I'll be able to make it to the end of this album by week's end. I'm really hoping for something really fun in the mail though. Keep your fingers crossed, okay?
