Hey everyone:

I’ve been wanting to share some deco foil techniques with you so I’ve made a little slideshow/movie for you.

Even though I run a scrapbook store, I still am all about products that offer versatility and I have to say, foil can offer you that!

I’ve been referring to Deco Foil because that’s the brand I’ve been using. There are other brands as well including some by Heidi Swapp and some by Ranger. While I do have Deco Foil available in several colours, rest assured, if you prefer those other brands I can hook you up.

The video is my take on using foil. Some of the techniques I show can be seen at the sites where I was originally inspired.

Those include:

And more foil

Later, you may want to check out Heidi Swapp‘s minc videos. Here’s a link to get you started. Heidi’s got a line of laser-printed materials including 12″x12″ scrapbook pages that look FABULOUS foiled! I’d love to try them to see how they work with an iron.

For those who are already familiar with the foil techniques, you can purchase pre-inked laser sheets. You could use these on your die cutting machines and then simply apply foil. Imagine how pretty your page titles could be when you foil them!

Also, in addition to the techniques I demo in my video, you can use products like spray adhesive, rubber cement and sticky embossing powder to apply foils. The main thing is you need a sticky surface. If you have an adhesive that stays sticky, it should work. Glue dots even work. Double-sided tapes are excellent. But the foil laser is super-easy too–without any adhesives. On top of that, We R Memory Keeper’s has a new “heat wav” foil pen that will adhere foil to your products.

Imagine the possibilities

This is such a versatile and simple product. Whether it’s adding a finishing touch to a scrapbook page, changing the colour of your leftover chipboard letters or creating some cute cards with those (unused?) rubber stamps, foil just could be the product you’re looking for.

So go ahead, take a look at the video.

And be sure to share your thoughts in the comment section of this post about how you could/would use foil.
