It’s Day 7 and I’m back with another of my favourite scrapbook things.

We’re pretty picture-laden today so let’s go!
Day 7: Ephemera
What is “ephemera” you ask?
The dictionary definition is “something of no lasting significance”. Specifically, paper items that were usually discarded after use but have become collectibles.
The meaning has stretched a bit as you’ll see by some of the photos below. I’d describe ephemera as tiny bits of papery things which scrapbookers like to add to their pages!
And that’s what I like to do. Add ephemera to my pages. And that includes these adorable people!
These paper dolls are by Idea-ology for Tim Holtz. Go to Tim Holtz’s site if you want to see how he uses them. They’re perfect when used as page embellishments, on cards, or in art journals.
Here’s a look at the Christmas collection of paper dolls.
What do you think? Would you use them?
Perhaps you’d be more comfortable with this Christmas ephemera pack?
The little bits in these packages look so cute when stacked in a little layer on your page. They’re perfect for those times when you just need a little extra something to finish off the page. Sometimes you’ve only got a photo or two and you don’t like all the empty space. Sometimes your page is laden with photos and you have no room for anything else but feel the page lacks a little something. They’re also great for cardmakers and art journallers.
I’m telling you, ephemera is THE BEST!
Most of the packs I’m showing have a price point of approximately $7.00 and you get tons of pieces that will go a long ways in your projects.
Here’s a travel-themed ephemera collage kit by Art-C.
Most of you know I adore Tim Holtz and almost anything he makes or has a hand in making. I have a very vintage style.
But some of you prefer or a different look. That’s okay. Nothing wrong with that! But guess what? Ephemera can still work for your pages.
Let’s look at some other packs.
How cute is the winter-themed pack?
I’m sure we can all think of many times when the Illustrated Faith “Thankful” ephemera pack could come in handy. Lots of cute sayings and embellishments.
There’s a good variety of birthday-themed ephemera for boys and girls. Either of these ones have pieces that could be used for any pages.
There are ephemera packs for almost any theme. How about this colourful toy-box themed pack?
Got a wedding to scrapbook?
And some of you have already picked up this nature-themed ephemera pack.
I’ve long been a collector of “ephemera” and have containers of little bits I’ve collected that I pull out for projects. If you’re on a budget, I’d recommend you start gathering and saving your little bits for your own stash. Drink tickets left from a party? Theatre stub? Circus admission? Tags from clothing–some of them are pretty funky! And even words and images cut from magazines. And don’t forget those little leftover cutouts from paper packs. Throw them into your collection–in one container so you can dig in it and find things when you want it!
No matter how you get your ephemera (but I can certainly hook you up!), my suggestion is to try some on your pages. Got a Cricut or die-cutting machine? Mix your ephemera in with some die-cuts.
When you’re adding ephemera to a page, play around with positioning. DON’T ATTACH ANYTHING until you’re sure it’s where you want it to be. Then start adhering it to your project.
Ephemera is definitely one of my favourite things. I’d like to see it become one of yours too!
What do you think? Will you give ephemera a try? What “bits” do you save for scrapbooking?
